A világ legboldogabb országa / The happiest country

ENG ⇓

Mégis egyetlen dolog járt egész nap a fejemben.

I was thinking of writing this post for a long time now. I have two reasons to write it now. First, the newest researches has shown Finland was the happiest country in the world, second, it is my birthday today.

When someone finds out I was in Finland for my Erasmus their first question is always why Finland. Here is the answer. If you go there you will not see that huge happiness. People will probably not smile, they are usually introverted and they need big personal space (in the North at least). Still, it is said now that it is the happiest country. I have been thinking a lot how this could happen as Finns do not consider themselves happy either. Although, if we look at the numbers I can believe this result. Their mentality, their attitude about life and mostly nature is amazing. They will probably not smile at you or start a conversation with you but if you beat yourself and start speaking with them they will be grateful. And if you get to know a Finnish person, that can change your life. Believe me, I know. 😂

Yes, today is my birthday. I was trying to skip this day, thinking of it as any other day. But only one thing was in my head all day. I was even wearing my hoodie from Finland so I could feel the country that changed my life closer to me. The place where I could let everything go and be the true myself without (too much) worrying. I would wish for only one thing for this birthday. To be there again and find that version of myself again. I really like that my life is busy again that I always have stuff to do but it feels like I would just running after me, like I would try to find myself in a world I do not belong to anymore.

Of course, it is a special day to my country too. A group of young people fought for a better future 170 years ago, for us to have the chance to live here in the way we can live now. A lot of people do not agree with me wanting to leave this country. It was not an easy decision, of course and it will be not an easy step to take either. Hungary will always be my home, I grew up here, this country gave me the opportunity to make my dream true and go to Finland. But it might be like your first, child love. You will always love your first love, but they might not be "the one" for you. You can argue about that, you do not have to understand me, but that was my decision and that is what those young people fought for, for freedom, for us to make our decisions freely.
So this post stands for the commemoration of 15th March 1848 and for imagining a future in the happiest country.
